Frame from the closer: “Success stories” in lime on torn black paper, next to a charcoal-drawn athlete.

01Brief

Six pieces, one series

The series

Beyond Limits is the Adidas docuseries streaming on Prime Video. It follows athletes and everyday people as they push their physical and mental limits, celebrating willpower, resilience and passion: sports as a way to break through personal and social barriers.

The brief

Create the series’ motion graphics pack: ident, closer, endpage, lower third, super and wipe. Short pieces, each with a specific job, that together tell the story of going beyond your limits through narrative animation, logo animation and consistent sound design. Every piece animates on and off with an alpha channel, so it can sit on top of any footage.

  • 6pieces in the pack
  • 7clips, with the super in two versions
  • 5–35″in length, from wipe to ident
  • Alphaon the way in and out
02Look

Torn paper, charcoal and lime

The look comes from the street: posters pasted one on top of another and then torn away, dry black brushstrokes, athletes redrawn in charcoal over black-and-white footage. Lime is the only color, and it lands only on the words that matter.

  1. Super transition: the octagon footage torn vertically.

    01 The tear

Every transition is a tear: the shot rips open and the next one appears underneath, like a poster pasted over another.

  2. Endpage: “Giovedì 20 aprile h19:00” (Thursday, April 20, 7 p.m.) in lime over black brushstrokes.

    02 The dry brush

Rough black brushstrokes work as masks: they cover the footage and clear space for the date, time and messages.

  3. Detail of the NBA board: the player drawn in charcoal.

    03 The charcoal

Athletes are redrawn as line art over the black-and-white footage, turning each athletic move into a piece of wall art.

  4. Closer: “From” and “Rise” in black italics on lime paper.

    04 The words in lime

Lime, the only color, is saved for the key words, set in a heavy sans serif that leans forward as if mid-sprint.

  • Black#0E0E0E

Off the wall

  • Closer: “Will” in black on lime paper.
  • Endpage: the adidas beyond limits sign-off and the Prime Video logo on black.
  • Closer: “Grit” with a worn texture on white.
  • Lower third animating in over an athlete in the stands.
  • Ident: the adidas logo on torn lime paper.
  • Wipe: the lit-up octagon just before the brushstroke.
03Pack

The pack, piece by piece

Six pieces, each with a job to do. Every frame opens its clip, sound design included.

Ident

35″

The series’ opening sequence. Black-and-white footage tears away to reveal the charcoal athletes, NFL and NBA flash up in lime, building to the cry “Never give up”; then the logo pieces itself back together, worn at first, finally clean on white.

Ident 35″

Closer

17″

The closing piece, paced like a manifesto: Success stories, From… Rise, Sweat, Grit, Will. One word per tear, then the adidas sign-off and the Prime Video card.

Endpage

22″

The end slate: air date and time, an invitation to share your story with #BeyondLimits and join the community, then the adidas beyond limits sign-off with Prime Video.

Endpage 22″

Lower third

9″

A compact bar along the bottom of the screen: the logo, “Questa sera 19:00” (Tonight, 7 p.m.) and the charcoal athlete. It animates in and out without covering the action.

Lower third 9″

Super

11″ · 10″

The superimposed text, in two sizes: one line for the key moment, “Touchdown”; two lines to introduce an athlete, “Beyond the octagon / Khabib.” The paper strip tears across the footage and pulls the charcoal portrait along with it.

Two-line super 10″

Wipe

5″

The transition between two scenes: a black brushstroke tears through the shot, the logo cuts across it and the next scene opens up.

04Still frame

Three sports, three boards

Three still boards, one per sport. Each holds the whole system together in a single frame: the charcoal athlete, the sport’s name in lime and in outline, torn black paper on white.

UFC board: two fighters drawn in charcoal, “UFC” in lime and in outline, torn black paper.
UFC The strike: two charcoal fighters, with the octagon sketched in pencil behind them.
NFL board: a charcoal-drawn player wearing number 84, in front of “NFL” in lime.
NFL The run: the player breaks out of the torn paper, the league’s name in lime and in outline.
NBA board: a Houston Rockets player, number 13, pointing left in front of “NBA” in lime.
NBA The gesture: the player points beyond the board, the lettering split by the tear.
